The Outer Rim Times was a fictional newsletter that followed the story of the Subterrel Conflict from a neutral, third party perspective. The Editor-in-Chief was Commodore Wolverine of the NR5F. The Staff Writers were ALT Thot Ghor of the GE and Mike Skywaler of the NR5F. Read on for the archives of the Times, and scroll to the bottom to read a brief description of the fictional origins of this epic confrontation.
PostludeA fictional narrative will soon be posted that will explain how the Sith faction was defeated in the moment of its triumph and forced to withdraw from the sector, leaving the Rebel faction the ultimate victor in the conflict. Stay tuned. The Outer Rim Times-Battle 7 Edition-New Republic’s Last Stand by Mike Skywaler The reports are coming way too fast for us here at Coruscant. News Flash! The New Republic just lost the Fersto system and the Yeseo system to the Sith Empire. It was a bloody battle in both systems and the New Republic fought hard to keep both systems from falling to the Sith. Chief of State, Leia Organa Solo is ordering all small fleets all over Republic space to the Azemin system, so they can defend the system and will not allow the Sith Empire to take control of the Azemin system. Memory Lane by Wolverine Not too long ago, a conflict emerged that would swallow a galaxy’s might. This came to be known as the Outer Rim Wars, the first two wars were waged on different fronts. Each force making a point, and stake in every life lost. With a secret found out, the third war erupted, threatening to spread to other reaches of civilized space. Now, a history that was set forth nearly twenty years earlier with Palpatine’s reign, may be re-enacted as the Sith prepare for the final offensive against the Republic. The Outer Rim Times-Battle 6 Edition-Fall of Yeseo by Mike Skywaler The New Republic just lost the Yeseo System to the Sith. The New Republic Forces fought to the last man to hold the Yeseo System. The New Republic Force put up a strong defense at Yeseo until the Sith brought in their reserves. The New Republic had them in the beginning until the tide turned for the worst. At the last section, one of the Officers in the New Republic Force order all personal out the Yeseo system. The New Republic fought bravely until it was too late and they had to evacuate the system. Derxes System falls to Sith; Imperial forces fall back to Imperial Space by Thot Ghor The Imperial fleet over Derxes has been forced back. Imperial ground troops had been evacuated from the area some time before, and the Imperial Navy had been concentrated in orbit of the main world of the system. The Sith launched a stunning assault on the world, with over 40 capital ships. The Sith and Imperial fleets clashed for over a day, and the Imperials were forced to withdraw when the battle had been decided with the arrival of Sith forces from the Yeseo System as reinforcments. The Imperial Fleet pulled back to the Imperial borders after securing a truce allowing them to evacuate all Imperial citizens in the system. When they all were safe, the Imperial Fleet pulled back to the heavily-armed and well protected outposts on the border. Any attack on Imperial Space would fail, due to the unusual gravitic and stellar anomalies on the border, and the presence of 23 Imperial Fleets. The Imperial Alliance has lost the Subterrel Conflict, and now the Subterrel Sector will be left in the hands of either the Rebels or the Sith. Looking back on the Imperial victories and losses, you can see a few people of great worth and integrity. The greatest leader would be Colonel Munro Burton, who brilliantly led his men on the ground in countless victories AND defeats with great tactics, and a deep sense of respect and love for the men under his command. Another great strategist was Vice Admiral Fel, who helped take the Teyeong System from enemy forces. Finally, Fleet Admiral Fel must be honored, because he led several fleet engagements personally, all leading to the victory at Teyeong. Over 600,00 Imperial Army officers and troopers have been killed in battle. 1.7 million were wounded. In the Navy, 1.2 million were killed, most when the Sith took the Teyeong System. 3.3 million Navy personnel were injured in this conflict. The sacrifices of the Imperial Armed Forces were made to protect Imperial citizens in the Subterrel Sector. Thankfully, few civilians were wounded in the conflict, and none have been killed, due to a general unspoken rule of protecting the innocent followed by all sides. When a civilian vessel was found floating and damaged, the Imperial Frigate Relentless saw them and rendered assistance. The civilians were Sith civilians, but the Frigate lended them all the aid possible. 200 people on board lived due to the honor of the Imperial Armed Forces. Ensign Roche, an officer on board, saved a child from dying from a terrible blaster wound. All the ships crew, even the captain, went to the medical bay and performed triage and first aid. Never have so many fought and died to protect so many from such a threat. Conclusion by Wolverine With the Imperial Remnant forces ejected from the Subterrel Sector of Wild Space, the final decision comes between the New Republic and the Sith Empire. The news of an imminent end has sent many Republic forces from Coruscant rushing to aid in the final head-on clash with the Sith Empire, hoping for a quick finish. The Sith Empire however, feels that they have secured so much of the Subterrel Sector that they are beyond defeat. Their Dark Arts of the Force have managed to secure them more systems than the Imperial Remnant or New Republic have won combined. Either way, it can only mean that an end is truly near. The Outer Rim Times-Battle 5 Edition-Sith Strikes Back by Mike Skywaler Who would know the Sith would come back striking full force? Well, they did. As reports come in from the battle that took place in the Ronnis System between the Sith Empire and the New Republic. The New Republic didn’t suspect the Sith Empire to strike back for losing the Selaris System to them about a week ago. New Republic forces made a heroic stand against the Sith so they wouldn’t conquer the Ronnis System. Which they worked so hard to conquered from the Imperial Remnants. But at the end the Republic had to fall back to a nearby system that is still in their control. The Sith moved in to take control of the Ronnis System from the New Republic. Cut Throat by Thot Gor The Imperial forces in orbit of Teyeong have been forced to withdraw. This system, bought with the blood of thousands of Imperial Stormtroopers, was taken by a massive Sith fleet that numbered in the thousands. I saw the Sithlanding craft break through our defenses, surrounded by heavy Raider-Class attack fighters. As the Sith fighters broke through, the Frigate Relentless was hit by an anti-ship missle fired from a escort corvette protecting the landers from attack. Relentless was forced to withdraw to the second line of defense, and the Imperials in the first line followed her. When they reached the second line, Chimera and her sister ships opened fire with a massive volley that destroyed several Sith capital ships. The Sith vessels have little in the way of foward-mounted weapons, and their shields were penatrated by the massive turbolasers on the defensive outpost in orbit of the world. 8 Sith capital warships were destroyed, before the Sith main line unleashed a massive broadside, destroying several Imperial support ships. As the battle raged, Sith fightercraft bunched through TIE Defender squadrons and the landing craft reached the capital city, where the Imperial Army had forced the surrender of the Sith ground troops. Sith soldiers and several Sith Masters landed, killing a small outpost at the capital building. As the fight continued, the Imperials were slowly forced back to the spaceport, where they were forced to depart. In orbit, the Sith fleet had taken so much damage that they were down to a third of their force. The Imperial Fleet then secured the ground troops and broke through the Sith right flank. When they got through, they had rescued the outposts crew, and met with an Imperial relief force on the edges of Imperial space. Tactical analysis shows Imperial forces in full retreat back to the Derxes system. The Rebels also lost a massive battle in the Ronnis System, and when a convoy of wounded encountered the Imperial Fleet, medical assistance was rendered. Neither side had the stomach to kill each other off. The Derxes System is the Imperial Fleet's last stand. If this system falls, the Imperials will be forced to withdraw out of the Subterrel Sector, and the victors in the Derxes System will take control. There is no concern of a Sith offensive into Imperial Space. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fleets of the Home Guard have secured the borders, and the battered 4th Fleet still has 5,000 ships capable of battle. The Empire must win, though, or Imperial citizens in the Subterrel Sector will be oppressed. Deja Vuby Wolverine After last week's epic battle to conquer the Ronnis system from the Remnant, the New Republic loses it this week to the Sith. Making the Ronnis system one of the only systems conquered by all three factions in this conflict. This fact has made many skeptics worry that the tide has turned in favor of the Sith. This however remains to be seen as the Remnant has nearly been forced from the entire war after their defeat this week as well in the Teyeong system. Can the Remnant and Republic repell the Sith's advances as this war edges on into its sixth week of bloodshed? Only one way to find out. That is to stay tuned to this newsletter for updates! The Outer Rim Times-Battle 4 Edition-Sith and Remnant by Wolverine The battles for Ronnis and Selaris made a point very clear, if not absolute. The fact that the Republic was the victor is irrelevant, the fact that neither the Remnant nor the Sith backed down until all were slain is the impressive thing. Ronnis, the Remnant forces were caught off guard by the suprised Republic attack and lost their capital ship quickly. Their ground forces however, put up a two day battle that is recorded as the most horrific battle yet in the Subterrel Conflict. Thousands were slaughtered in the mayhem before the Republic had to call for space bombardment to break the Remnants lines. Selaris, the Sith forces too were caught off guard but retaliated by taking down a Mon Calamarian cruiser. Once forced back to the planet, the Sith warriors charged the Republic ground forces without thought of any death but their enemies. The Sith nearly won the ground battle until Jedi reinforcements arrived to drive them back into extinction from Selaris. Rebels force back Imperial forces, Rebels win their first battle by Thot Gor The Rebels won their first battle this week, forcing back the Imperial Fleet in the Ronnis System. The Imperials fought bravely, making the Rebels pay for each and every bit of space. Asteroid fields switched hands over and over. This Rebel offensive also took the Selaris System from the Sith. Before this happened, the Rebels had yet to win a single engagement with superior Imperial warship designs, such as the Imperator-II Class Star Destroyer. The Rebels brought new warships, identified as MC-90 Star Cruisers, into the battle at a critical moment, forcing the ISD Chimera to withdraw. Rebel forces landed all through the night on Ronnis Prime. When dawn came, the Imperials, including Gorgon and Viper, were slowly forced back with heavy casualties. They finally were forced back to the spaceport, where they departed, leaving the city in Rebel hands. Tactical analysis indicates that the Rebels have yet to reform their fleet in orbit of Ronnis. If the Imperials were to attack on the opposite side of the system, they could push aside the small Rebel outpost in the asteroid field there, opening a clear path to the rear lines of the Rebels. An attack like this would allow Imperial forces to force the Rebels off the planet. Huge Victory for the Republic by Mike Skywaler On top of the report by Thot Gor, the New Republic did a two-pronged surprise attack on Selaris System and the Ronnis System. Both the Sith and the Remnant forces didn’t suspect the Republic to come back with such a big offense. The New Republic first attacked the Selaris System which was in Sith control. After a long bloody battle, Selaris system fell from the Sith. Not long later, the aimed for the Ronnis System. The Imperials were totally surprised when the New Republic attacked them. After that long battle the Ronnis System fell to the Republic. Now as the Republic stand ready to take another system by force or whatever Command has up their sleeve. Chief of State responsible for the Upset in Subterrel Sector by Wolverine The New Republic Chief of State, Leia Organa Solo, was responsible for deploying elite forces after Ronnis and Selaris. The plan was to "catch them off guard. This is war afterall and whatever can be done, must." Many celebrations are going around Coruscant at the time being for the victory over their old nemesis and the Sith. "This victory signals the turning point in this conflict, and I intend to back our forces with all my support, until the end." The Outer Rim Times-Battle 3 Edition-The Sith Empire Lays Waste by Wolverine YESEO- In the outer reaches of space, the three factions of the Subterrel Conflict met in the middle of the Saplin, Varla and Kyroc systems for an all out battle. After a long, agonizing battle in space the Sith Forces of the Dark Brotherhood, led by Tyno and Frosty, sent a task force to capture the Rebel base on Kyroc. The move took the Rebels by suprise and left an opening in the rear flank of the Sith Fleet for the Remnant Forces to attack. With the opportunity to take out the Sith Fleet and conquer Varla and Kyroc for their Commander, the Imperial Forces led a ground and space assault on Varla as well as the Sith Fleet at Kyroc. RevengeX fought bravely on the planet Varla as he led forces near the capital but was unable to breach the perimeter after a two day siege. Meanwhile Arturus and Kairo led the Remnant Forces against the Sith Fleet at Kyroc, their Star Destroyers and Victory Star Destroyers took out a few dreadnaughts before a secondary Sith Fleet came out of hyperspace behind them. This sudden and unexpected move by the Sith Forces led to the Remnant falling back to the Saplin system where the remaining Sith Fleet pursued. On his way back to the Saplin system, RevengeX was able to disable four Sith Dreadnaughts and two Blockade Runners before the Remnant Forces were forced to flee Saplin and the capital. This tremendous show of force by the Sith Empire leads many to believe that their loss last battle was a fluke and that the Rebel and Remnant Forces may have to put aside their differences and join forces to conquer this unstoppable foe. SITH FORCE IMPERIALS AND REBELS BACK by Thot Gor Courtesy of ALT Sklib of Demon Company/Demon CO/2nd Brigade/Imperial Army "This is ALT Thot Ghor. The Sith recently beat back Imperial Armed Forces and took the Saplin System. I had an oppurtunity to speak with a leader who was on the front lines. This officer's name is ALT Sklib." 1. How did you do? SKLIB -- "Demon Company did extremely well, and as leader I am especially proud of officers JLT Erinos and PFC RevengeX. Despite the loss of a system, our forces will regroup and release a counter-offensive and regain control of what we have lost". 2. What happened/how did the Sith take the Saplin system? SKLIB -- "The Sith overwhelmed us sheerly by numbers. Our elite forces could not handle the quantity of soldiers, but eventually quality will overcome quantity." 3. What effect does this loss have on our forces? SKLIB -- "Our morale has been slightly crippled, but our resolve has never been stronger!" 4. What do you plan to do about this? SKLIB -- "As leader of the most skillful and elite Company within the Empire, I plan to launch all personnel under my command at full throttle and hopefully subjugate the system we have lost in the epic battle recently. Only time will tell if the Sith can be held back." Kyroc by Wolverine KYROC- My name is not important, what you need to know is that I was at the battle for Kyroc, and this is how it went down. The Rebel Forces surrounded Kyroc and its neighboring planets. There wasn't much room for the enemy should they have decided to come our way to hit the Capital right away. I was stationed onboard the CRS Payback when the call came out over the comlink system, 'Sith Forces dead ahead!' I sent out the call for a red alert, everyone went to their battle stations and fighters deployed from the seventy ships we had in the system. The CRS Payback was hovering near Kyroc when the outer forces fell to the Sith Empire's Enhanced-Dreadnaughts. Their firepower was intensified and directed at one ship at a time, our ships shields were getting ripped apart and the hull and ship decompressurized in a matter of minutes. Finally, one of their dreadnaughts fell after the reached the second line of defense of the Kyroc system. There wasn't a spot in the system that a laser was not going through. The Sith Forces made a desperate move to send two of their Dreadnaughts on a suicide run towards the CRS Warspite stationed on the other side of Kyroc from where the CRS Payback was. We worked hard, and the two Dreadnaughts fell, but not without a price to us. We didn't know it then, but the Sith just created a diversion to send a task force down to the capital on Kyroc, and they captured it right from under our noses. The shock of losing the Capital while the Sith Forces were still an hours battle away from entering range of firing on Kyroc infuriated our ranks. The Command made what I believe to be the fatal error in the Kyroc battle, they decided to retake the Capital instead of focus entirely on the battle in space. This miscalculation led our forces in a retreat from the Kyroc system, but not without losing nearly forty war vessels to the Sith Empire. The Tide needs to turn fast for the Rebels and Imperials by Thot Gor RONNIS- The Sith have now conquered two systems, one from the Empire and one from the Rebels. The Sith, however, have overextended themselves. Imperial forces are building up to take over the Varla System from a thinly protected Sith force. The Sith have been reinforcing against possible Rebel attacks. If the Sith do not turn their attention against the Imperial forces, then the Varla system could definitely be taken by a superior force. As the battle has continued, many who claimed the Sith did not have the ability to win have been surprised by an enourmous assault by the Sith. Rebel and Imperial forces were caught completely off guard. Losses have been heavy. Entire battallions of brave men have died for planets that have changed hands many times over. If any side wishes to win, they must end the war fast. The Outer Rim Times-Battle 2 Edition-The Imperials gain the upper hand by Thot Ghor TEYEONG- The Subterrel Conflict has swung in favor for Imperial Forces. After nearly destroying a sizeable Sith defense force in orbit of Teyeong, the Imperial Forces under Colonel Munro Burton launched what many onlookers were calling, a "stunning and successful attack" on a Sith outpost guarding the routes to the Capital. Once the Sith were driven off, several of the Imperial units, including the well-known 'Gorgon and Raider Companies', pushed forward and annihilated the Sith holding the City. As a result of the battle, the Imperial Faction have taken over the Teyeong System. There were reports of the New Republic staging a force to take the nearby Saplin system. If they were to fail on the assault, data charts indicate they would be vulnerable to attack in the Kyroc System which they have maintained an outpost at. The next major battle in the Subterrel War will determine the tide of the war, for the New Republic has yet to see a victory in this gloomy setting of space. The Sith Empire takes a Loss by Wolverine KYROC- In the recent battle of the Subterrel Conflict, the Teyeong system fell out of the Sith Empire's hands and into the Remnants. It is unsure how the Sith Empire is going to recover from this loss in the coming battles, but one thing is certain, someone is going to pay. The victory over Varla made many Republic and Remnant forces 'edgy' as some would say before they fired the first laser over Teyeong, fearing another Sith Empire victory imminent, if not already decided. The news of the defeat does raise hope for the New Republic and Imperial Forces, for maybe they aren't facing the same Sith Empire from the Sith Wars. Report on Teyeong from Imperial Standpoint by Thot Ghor TEYEONG- "I am here now in the Teyeong City hospital. There are many wounded here, as I can see Colonel Munro Burton standing next to several men." "From here it seems he is visiting some wounded. Gorgon and Raider Companies both led the final assault on the capital, driving off a large Sith force including several users of 'The Force'. These other Sith were eliminated by fire from a Juggernaut Tank brought in the support the companies as they fought. They wound through several tight streets until they reached the capital building and forced the surrender of the Sith garrison leader there. Gorgon and Raider both suffered incredible casualties as they fought back a determined Sith counterattack when they approached the capital building. Several dozen men were killed, and hundreds wounded. The Imperial units almost were forced to pull back when TIE Fighters from the orbiting Imperial Fleet came down and strafed the Sith lines. The Sith were so disorganized that their lines broke, and Gorgon and Raider rallied. The companies, reinforced by several units from Dauntless Company and the TIE Fighters, set up a perimeter around the Sith base. Then, several artillery units were called in and shelled the Sith forces dug in on the capital grounds. Seeing the situation was hopeless, the Sith commander sent out a white flag and handed himself over. He is expected to be well treated at a prison facility near the Imperial Capital worlds." "The Teyeong System battle was a great example of cooperation between the Imperial Army and Navy, as well as an example of the dedication, courage, training, and leadership of the Imperial forces." "Reports are coming in of a New Republic Fleet building on the border near the Saplin System. They have been repulsed each time they engaged Sith or Imperial forces. Only time will tell how to fortunes of war will treat the Empire." War leads to Revenue for Nearby Smugglers by Wolverine KYROC- With the Subterrel Sector of space out of the way, it leads to many questions for Fleet Commanders to ponder. One of which might be the resupplying of necessary items for war. Pirates, smugglers and scoundrel from all over the galaxy are gearing up supplies and heading over to the various systems throughout the sector for a large sum of credits. The saying that "war produces revenue" was true in the days of the Old Republic, and it's true today, and the people of this galaxy want to clean up from the last few decades of the Galactic Civil War with a nice sum of credits in their pocket. The Outer Rim Times-Battle 1 Edition-War erupts in Subterrel! by M. Samuels TARSONIS- War erupted in the little-known Subterrel Sector of the Outer Rim three days ago. A massive battle apparently between three opposing factions began suddenly and lasted for nearly two full days until two of the sides in the three-way battle withdrew to regroup. The battle took place in the Varla system, an unexplored and largely unknown planetary system that has seen no life since an Old Republic exploratory team dropped out of hyperspace there hundreds of years ago. It is unknown at this time exactly which governments were represented by the three opposing factions in this battle. The New Republic has disclaimed knowledge of any battle group operating in the Subterrel Sector, while none of the major Imperial warlords has claimed responsibility. Yet it seems clear that one faction was using New Republic technology, including Mon Calamari-class battle cruisers. The other two factions were using Imperial-era ships, and stormtroopers were seen on at least one planet in the Varla system. Upon further examination, almost every system in the Subterrel Sector proved to contain a garrison for one of these factions or the other. The apparently New Republic-oriented faction has set up in the Kyroc, Fersto, Yeseo, and Azemin systems. The other systems are all occupied by one of the two Imperial-oriented factions. It was not immediately clear why the two Imperial factions are fighting each other as well as the presumed New Republic faction, but it is perhaps to be set down to the chronic infighting that has plagued the remnants of the Galactic Empire since the death of the emperor at the Battle of Endor. At the end of the two-day battle, one of the Imperial factions was left in control of the Varla system. Attempts to communicate with vessels of this fleet were rebuffed so identification remains impossible. This reporter did however observe that the starfighters and vessels of this fleet had red symbols and markings rather than the more common blue of the Imperial Navy. On the surface of the planet, no stormtroopers were to be found after the battle ended, but several cloaked individuals could be seen in the shadows. It is unknown whether this battle marks the end of open warfare in the Subterrel Sector, but it seems unlikely. An unknown sector by M. Samuels TARSONIS- The Subterrel Sector, where warfare recently began, is almost completely unknown. Aside from an Old Republic exploratory expedition, which took only very rudimentary readings, no being known in the galaxy has stayed in the Sector for any substantial amount of time. The Old Republic survey team swiftly assigned names to the planetary systems within the Sector as it swept through, but did not bother naming the planets. Consequently the planets are known only by their system names. Thus the Varla system, in which the most recent battle was fought, contains planets Varla I and Varla II. No sentient life exists in the Subterrel Sector, according to the results of the survey team. In fact, it is currently entire unclear why anybody should wish to fight over this particular sector of space. Requests for information from the Coruscant library returned nothing helpful. When queried about what in the Subterrel Sector may be worth fighting for, a New Republic representative asked "What is the Subterrel Sector?" When shown a map of the Outer Rim and pressed for an answer, the representative concluded the interview by insisting that she had "no comment." Fictional Origins: Prelude to WarSometime after the Battle of Endor, a group of the Imperial remnant split in internecine fighting. One group continued to remain loyal to the remnant, and the other professed loyalty to an Imperium of the Sith. Years later, both factions stumbled upon a mysterious secret in the Subterrel Sector. As the two factions began gearing up to fight over this alleged prize, New Republic spies infiltrated the Sector and discovered what the Imperials and Sith were doing. The spies attempted to elude Imperial forces, but were caught by forces of the Sith and destroyed. Not realizing this, the Imperial force launched attacks on "Rebel" territories, to destroy the forces of the New Republic in that vicinity and prevent them from joining the fray in the Subterrel Sector. The New Republic forces suffered severe losses, but survived. Returning back to the Subterrel Sector to continue the fight with the Sith faction, the Imperial forces do not realize that they have unwittingly invited a third faction to the war. The Rebel faction is Chaos-bent on revenge for the attack on their territories and has launched a major retaliation operation in pursuit of the Imperial forces. Along the way, the Rebel faction must learn that there is more going on out in the Subterrel Sector than what first appeared. When the Rebels learn what the Imperials and Sith seek, they are desperate to deny the enemy factions access to a secret almost too terrible to imagine... The factions therefore geared up for an enormous three-way war. It could only end with the complete destruction of two of the factions and the occupation of the entire Subterrel Sector by the victor. The Subterrel Conflict had begun. |
