Frequently Asked Questions

What is ORW3:The Subterrel Conflict?

The Subterrel Conflict is a massive gaming event between numerous Star Wars gaming clubs. It supports most LucasArts games based on the greatest of all movie franchises.

Which clubs are involved?

There are 9 clubs involved, separated into 3 factions: Rebel, Imperial and Sith. A full list of clubs involved can be found here. You must be a member of one of these clubs in order to take part in this event.

Where does it all take place?

The Subterrel conflict takes place in the IRC Undernet channel #OuterRim. You will need an IRC client like mIRC or JIRC to get there. Alternatively, you may use EV (Errant Venture) and talk to #OuterRim through the (EVtoIRC) client.

How do I get a game?

To sign up to play a particular game, type !signup in #Outerrim. For example, to sign up for a 1v1 game of Jedi Outcast, type !signup JO 1v1. A 2v2 game of Battlefront II would be !signup BF2 2v2. When someone else signs up for the same game, the ORW Bot will make the match and inform you of your opponent.

Who do I report my results to?

The winner of each match should report the result using our web-based reporting system on this site. Go to the main page and click "add match."

What is the fictional story of The Subterrel Conflict?

We are attempting to create a rich, full, fictional setting for this competition. To learn about the fiction behind the fighting, please see the OR Times page.

How does a faction win The Subterrel Conflict?

The competition is a team-based competition, so individuals do not "win," although they may place first in points earned for a given battle. The goal of the competition is for one of the factions to conquer all twelve contested planetary systems in the Subterrel Sector. When a faction places first in a battle, it will conquer a system from the faction that places second and the faction that places third in that battle. Battles will continue until all twelve systems belong to one of the three factions. For more information, see the Maps and Results pages.

An ELS member asked me if I would use a program called Hamachi. What is that?

Hamachi is a very easy-to-use program that emulates a private LAN network on the internet. The use is very simple:
1. Download Hamachi from here.
2. Install it.
3. Join outerrim network with Hamachi (ask moderators for login information).
4. Inside the game, go to Multiplayer -> LAN (BF2, EAW).
Ask members of Outer Rim War 3 Council or other moderators for the name and password of the net. You can do it by pressing the “create or join a network” then “join an existing network” and then simply enter the name of our net and the password. There is additional information here. Hamachi's website is here. It has the advantage that the net works like a normal internet IP game: one host with hamachi running, the others join with hamachi running in the same net. Games appear created in LAN, host has to use the IP hamachi has on the top of its window.
